A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SOUTHERN OREGON HOME SHOW
The first annual Southern Oregon Home Show was held at the old Holiday Inn Convention Center in April, 1983.
The show was conceived as a
means to assist members of the local Home Builders Association during a
time of depression in the construction business. There were 37 exhibits
in our first Home Show and the drapes and electrical were contracted
out to Noel Lesley Event Services, who continues to help us out each
year. The show was judged a great success by both the Association and
the exhibitors and it was decided to make it an annual event.
The following year, the Association
Board of Directors chose to move the show to the Oregon National Guard
Armory. The only weekend available was the second weekend in February,
and we have continued with that date ever since. The response from the
exhibitors was more than we had hoped and we also had a cooking contest
between area high schools. The show has continued to grow each year as
more exhibitors purchased space.
Our exhibitors come from all over
the state of Oregon, as well as from California and Washington. Most of
our out-of-town exhibitors and visitors stay in local motels and eat
many meals in local restaurants. Thus, our show contributes to the
Rogue Valley economy.
In 2003 we moved the Home Show to a
larger venue, the Jackson County Exposition Center, to accommodate the
overflow of exhibitors
The Home Builders Association
of Jackson County is proud that our Home Show contributes to the local
economy in so many ways: The exhibitors promote their products and
skills, stimulating business in the valley, and the local motels,
restaurants and stores also benefit from the exhibitors and the
approximately 20,000+ people who attend the show each year.
